Open Water Certification

The Course

The Open Water Certification Course includes 3-4 classroom lectures, 3-4 pool sessions and a total of 4 open water dives (2 tanks each) in two separate boat trips as well as a final exam. (About 30 hours total time, including half day boat trips.) The cost of the boat fees are included in the price of the course, as well as all required scuba gear such as buoyancy compensator device with low-pressure inflator hose, tanks, air fills, regulator, alternate air source and submersible pressure gauge.

Gear YOU will be required to purchase which is considered "personal:"

  • Mask
  • Fins
  • Snorkel
  • Weight Belt and Weights
  • Wet Suit (appropriate exposure protection) if necessary, depending on the time of the year the course is taken.
  • PADI Open Water Dive Manual with
  • Dive Tables

Please Note:
Pool classes take place at the lovely Venetian Pool located in Coral Gables located at 2701 De Soto Boulevard. Pool fees are included in the class price. For more photographs or information about historic Venetian Pool, please visit their web site at www.VenetianPool.com. Please note the water in Venetian Pool is supplied by an underground aquifer and therefore it is a constant 72 degrees, which is quite cool and refreshing but as a result, a wet suite or some type of exposure protection is suggested for pool classes.

Boat trips are generally with RJ Diving Ventures from Miami Beach Marina and are four shallow dives including one shallow wreck dive, which is the first dive of the second boat trip.
